About My Purpose
First of all, I’m all about the success of your relationship! When I partner with you and your significant other I am 100% committed to helping you move from chaos to solutions, and from distance to intimacy. The thing that brings me the greatest satisfaction is seeing couples renewed, families saved, and lives changed.
Second, while I often work with couples through crisis situations and urgent needs, I also do a fair bit of marital “tune-ups” and preventive maintenance. I would be honored to serve you and your partner by tending to problematic issues before they turn into a crisis. Never forget that it’s much less expensive to maintain a vehicle than it is to wait until the entire engine needs to be replaced!
Third, I’m all about giving back to the community that has given so much to me! I was born in Jacksonville, my father was stationed at Mayport for 10 years, I finished high school as well as my Undergraduate degree here, met and married my wife here, and have finally achieved my dreams of owning a counseling practice here in Northeast Florida! That’s why a portion of every counseling session provided goes back to this great community through charitable contributions that house, feed, and uplift the homeless, transform the lives of the addicted, and rescue those who have been victimized by sex trafficking.
About My Professional Experience
I believe in hard work. That’s why I’ve spent 15 years working hard on my craft! I am a highly-specialized couples’ therapist and sexual addictions therapist. Here’s an overview of my training and experience.
In my Undergraduate work I earned a Bachelor’s in Pastoral Theology from Trinity Baptist College where I graduated Cum Laude. This theological training has been invaluable in my work whenever I have the privilege of working with couples who place faith at the center of their family’s lives.
I then studied Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University where I graduated With Distinction with a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. I am currently completing coursework and a dissertation for a PhD. In Counselor Education and Leadership through University of the Cumberlands.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida, and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia.
Since completing my graduate program I’ve worked in a variety of professional settings. I’ve worked at an inpatient psychiatric hospital and run the evening Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for chemical dependency at a community mental health agency. I’ve also had a clinical leadership role managing the clinical services, staff, marketing, and business development of a group of 7 private practices in Virginia.
I spent several years becoming highly-specialized in couples counseling utilizing the Gottman Method, and sex-addiction counseling. My post-graduate clinical specialty training was completed through:
- The Gottman Institute founded by Dr. John Gottman – the world’s leading relationship researcher – Level 3 out of 3
- The Feeling Good Institute founded by Dr. David Burns, pioneer in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
- American Association for Sex Addiction Therapy founded by Dr. Doug Weiss, an international expert in the treatment of sexual addiction
I regularly host and present at our Gottman couples’ workshops, couples’ weekend retreats, and seminars for parents. I also provide consulting services to business leaders, non-profits, and churches looking to create healthy, happy, and high-performance work cultures.
In the vigorously-protected margins of my time I date my wife, play with my 2 boys, attend local sporting events, exercise, fish and boat, read and do research, and serve in my local church.
